Storms Hit Southern England

This could be the worst storm since the 1980's. Damaging gusts struck overnight and early on Monday along the south coast of England but the strongest winds are now said to be blowing in east London, Kent and Essex. Winds where forcast to hit well over 80mph. A gust of 99mph was recorded at Needles Old Battery, Isle of Wight, at 06:00 GMT. Many rail services are cancelled or delayed and around 130 flights are cancelled at Heathrow. There are thought to be over 200,000 homes without power across the UK, after damage to lines from falling trees and high winds, according to UK Energy Networks. Hundreds of trees have been blown. The storm is thought to have swiftly moved north wards to Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire. Please update us with any news of your own.
